To me it looks very like white bird netting, so Mr R may have been sticking his head where parrot's heads are not supposed to go.

Saw this crimson rosella on Callum Brae this morning.  The image below is a bit low res, but on a higher res image you can see that the stuff he is wearing is a kind of interlocking thread, similar to the kind of stitching that was (and may still be) used on bags of stock feed.

Question is, what can be done, if anything?  If anyone believes they can trap and help the bird, I can take them to where I saw it.  It was one of a pair examining a nesting hollow, but whether it really is their nest or not, I do not know.
