Subject: | Hobby nest prospecting at my house? |

At midday today I heard a loud chittering from my backyard and went out to see an Aust. Hobby flying around my big Euc tree and perching adjacent to the Pied nest. I have not seen the Currawongs there for two days so I don't know if they have finished or chicks have died, been predated or abandoned. The Hobby flew around then onto the neighbour's tree then flew away, still calling. I did not see a partner. I think on size it is a male. In all the years of having them fly over, I'm pretty sure this is the first time I have had one actually perching in my yard. For years my brother had them nesting in the yard of a huge ex monastery building across the road from him in Surrey Hills in Melbourne. Philip |
