This year Murrumbidgee golf course is a home to large numbers of ducks of various types.

Coot have done very well this year – I counted about 65 in one group on a fairway.

During the week-end one of my golfing partners unfortunately knocked one down and the bird struggled on its side on the ground unable to get up;

The interesting thing was that the flock of Coot crowed in quickly, apparently to commiserate? – until we approached and they dispersed.  I have not seen this behaviour before amongst Wood Ducks which just go on feeding, unconcerned. Surprising.
