The last few days the Hobby pair in Ainslie have been busy fending off the currawong gang besieging the nest.

This morning (8 am) they took time off (currawongs absent) to mate- very briefly--

4 years ago, for safety reasons,  TAMs felled two tall trees (amongst others) in Corroboree Park that Hobbys had nested in (using ravens’ nests) for several previous years. I  then saw no Hobbys in the area for the  following 3 years.

This evening, in a near-by street, I watched a Hobby vigorously fend off some hassling  Sulphur-crested Cockatoos, and then settle into a (disused) raven’s nest, way up in a v. tall gum tree.  Future actions to be watched eagerly!
