A friend reported being swooped by nesting Ravens on Briars-Sharrow Rd yesterday so I set off to see what was going on. By this morning the fledglings had left the nest in the tall elms and were sitting, looking rather forlorn, in hawthorn bushes on the opposite side of the road. From the calls I believe these to have been Little Ravens rather than Australian.
In the base of the elms I spotted a dependent young Flame Robin being fed by its mother (or, being non-judgemental, a female Flame Robin). Other interesting sightings were a Rufous Songlark (the first of these for the season out here); 1 Diamond Firetail and about 20 Fairy Martins at their usual nest site on Plains Rd. An interesting hearing was the call of Stubble Quail from a paddock with some patches of longer grass,
