A
few years ago there was a magpie nest in Wanniassa of which the basic building
material was wire coat hangers and electrical flex. Just urban adaptation,
I suppose.

Subject: [canberrabirds] maggie choice of nesting
material
Yesterday, my husband, Greg, observed a magpie for around ten
minutes attempting to lift and fly with a one and a half metre length of
aluminium wire, which was mostly strung out, to his nest nearby on the side of
the road near Tarago. When Greg had watched long enough to realise what the
material was, he removed it, much to the maggie's chagrin.
