maggie choice of nesting material

For years (from late 1980s) COG had one in our display box (for exhibitions) made mostly out of wire. I think the plant lining at the top had mostly fallen out. Built in the yard of someone who had a lot of electronics scraps lying around.

A few years ago there was a magpie nest in Wanniassa of which the basic building material was wire coat hangers and electrical flex.  Just urban adaptation, I suppose.

Yesterday, my husband, Greg, observed a magpie for around ten minutes attempting to lift and fly with a one and a half metre length of aluminium wire, which was mostly strung out, to his nest nearby on the side of the road near Tarago. When Greg had watched long enough to realise what the material was, he removed it, much to the maggie's chagrin.
