Satin bowerbirds are quite common at Uriarra. I see them most days but had never found the bower. Margaret L. found it (near the tennis courts) during a single morning visit. I have a lot to learn.

They are very common in Canberra's south. At least they (Satin Bowerbirds) are the most common regular winter inhabitant of my garden in Kambah, (probably 15 to 20 in my GBS area every day). Given that Striated Thornbills are not here every day and although I get much higher counts of Galahs, Magpies & S-c Cockatoos, they mostly are in the general area (local parks) rather than so many in my yard. Though Satin Bowerbirds differ a fair bit in abundance across Canberra.

Thanks to Julian and Jaslyn for the virtually instant identification of our new companion as a female Satin Bowerbird.

Is this bird rare or unusual in Canberra's south?
