I should have responded to this earlier. This is another species with few July records on the COG database – only 1 in the last 31 years (1995).

I took a walk around the new pond & wetland at Crace this afternoon. It has a good number of the expected birds in and around it - Pacific Black Duck, Grey Teal, Hardhead, Coot, Dusky Moorhen, Hoary-headed Grebe, Pipit and this Australian Spotted Crake which gave me excellent views as it patrolled the pond edge:

Also, I have had Grey Fantail and Reed Warbler in my local patch in Giralang, both unusual for this time of year, and on Saturday I had a Spotted Harrier (again), and within a few minutes, a Brown Goshawk -  unusual for this location.
