Almost certainly, female (or non adult male) Satin Bowerbirds. Description fits on all levels and they are said to be common in Weston Creek.

I am trying to identify a pair of birds, sometimes even two pairs, which have visited my domestic garden in Western Creek noticeably, it would seem, only over the past two years.

The bird is plump, perhaps even quite heavy, (as last year they managed to tip over and break a shallow 12 cm water bowl), with skinny green-bronze brown back, bronze-brown wings complete with a white, brown-spotted or brown-flecked breast and with a strong downward-curved beak.

They are extremely interested in my bowls of stones on a courtyard table, perhaps looking for foodstuffs and, with great curiosity, they lift and drop and even attempt to fly off with some of these stones.

I would be interested to identify this bold and attractive bird.  I first thought that it might be the common bronze-wing, which has increased in numbers since being protected in the ACT, but I am not confident of that label?

I would appreciate your response, if possible.
Sincerely,
Margaret Stack
