A view. in the over-edited modern fashion, of the Jerra Barn Owl.  Among past encounters with this species I recall a non-encounter in a sightseeing craft in the Okefenokee Swamp. “There”, said the guide, “is a Barrrrn Owl”.  “That’s not a Barn Owl”, I said, “it’s not white”. “No, no”, he said, becoming a little heated,  “it’s a Barrrn, Owl, a Barrrn Owl”.  He was, as eventually established, saying “Barred Owl” in his distinctly non-Bostonian American.
