Stuart, It will do me as a Blue-winged Parrot – good photo. Mark From: Stuart Harris [ Sent: Monday, 15 April 2013 9:55 PM To: canberrabirds Subject: Fwd: [canberrabirds] 'BWP' near Jindalee SF ? Have just returned from a trip out Grenfell way looking for Turquoise Parrot around Weddin NP and on the way there was both surprised and delighted to encounter what i believe is a juvenile Blue-winged Parrot. It was sighted on North Berthong Rd, after we left Jindalee SF on the way to Young. The reason i include this sighting on COG list is that Jindalee is familiar to many COGsters and although not within COGs AOI I'm sure would be of interest to some. What struck me is how East this bird was, having seen them previously towards both the South (Port Campbell, VIC) and North (Yathong NR) of their range in 2004. Since returning home today i have persused 3 of my field guides and am 99% sure it is a Blue-winged Parrot. What leads me to this is the yellow lore and bright yellow belly, and also the emergence of a dark blue at the posterior of its wing..It was also solitary, and still, perched on a cattle fence along the road. If in the company of a flock or a few other parrots i may have thought Red-rumped (and not stopped) so i did stop, then reversed to get within camera range. I have provided a link here for you to help me confirm (or not) this sighting:
