This morning at Diddums Close, Lake Ginninderra, a flock of Tree Martins in a large Eucalyptus – I counted at least 80 birds before getting a pain in the neck – but were more, c. 120 at a conservative estimate – watched for 10 minutes hoping to see them take off en mass but this didn’t happen. Groups of about five would take off hawking for prey and return to tree. Maybe they were fuelling up for their autumn migration.
