Easter Campout at Chilton

just back from a most enjoyable and very productive, over 120 species,Easter break in the Chilton area. Some of the highlights were black chinned, painted, and numerous black honeyeaters plus barking owls skillfully called into our campsite. During our 6-7 pm  bird count and drink session we were often entertained by up to 5 firetail finches entering and leaving a nest about 2 metres from the ground as built as  a second story to an old babbler nest. A  full account will appear in next Gang Gang but two earlybird photos are attached showing a firetailfinch posing outside the nest and a southern boobook owl finding safe refuge  below ground in the shaft of the old Magenta Goldmine.
