The two photos below were taken in the same area near Glendambo (on the Stuart Highway west of Woomera), SA.  Bird A is clearly of a yellow vented race (ssp. haematogaster?), while Bird B clearly has red on the vent area, possibly ssp. haematorrhous.  There appears to be three possible explanations:

  1. Both races (ssp. haematogaster and ssp. haematorrhous) were present in this area.  
  2. Bird B is mismarked.
  3. Hybridisation has occurred.

Can anyone out there with greater knowledge than I, help me out.  Of course there may also be some other explanation that I have not thought of.
