About your Rufous Whistler photo with this fellow with the white streak down his breast. I have no idea if that something to do with his age but in general it is usual for the body feathers of birds to be white, grey or black at the base, with colour usually only at the end half or third. So if they spread their feathers out (and being in the mid line suggests this), then it can expose the less coloured bases of the feathers. That is a bit of a guess, it could just be an odd bird.
 
As for A mother kangaroo had a joey in the pouch, is that unusual at this time of the year. I would think not. In good conditions mother kangaroos breed almost continuously, with a production line of 1, 2 or 3 young at different stages of growth.
