Stopped by Kelly's today for a brief period, whilst passing through on bike.
I was amazed by how dry it was! bittern and Ardea basically looked onto soil...
Cygnus had a few puddles left, with lots of swallows hawking over them.
Most interesting were the 5 or 6 Spotted Crakes feeding right out in the open,
as well as the red-kneed dotterels walking close to the hide (or closer than
normal). Buff banded rail was a nice species to see, a first for me in Canberra.
On the way out of Jerra, going towards the city on the cycle path, we ran into
two sacred kingfishers (which I reluctantly had to deem sacred - I was hoping
so much I'd see red backed!). One attacked a perched black shouldered kite
while we watched, which was interesting.
