Great day birding yesterday January 20 in Namadgi.
At the Visitor Centre 2 Sacred Kingfishers, excellent views of 2 Diamond
Firetails, Jacky Winter adult followed closely by one young bird and
Buff Banded Rail.
Did large loop up to Yankee Hat and around via old Boboyan Road - the
place was alive with raptors.
* Very close up views of 2 adult Wedge Tailed Eagles
* 2 pairs of Swamp Harriers
* 3 Brown Falcons
* 2 Black Shouldered Kite
* 1 Collared Sparrowhawk
* 3 Nankeen Kestrels
* 1 Brown Goshawk
Certainly great place to really get to know your raptors - i was
constantly thumbing through my bird book to reaquaint myself with a
number of these species. Given the amount of food available perhaps not
surprising at numbers and variety of birds of prey. Is there any other
regularly seen bird of prey in Namadgi that i did not see yesterday ?
regards
Tim Birch
