Back with the pelicans at Kellys this morning.  OK, so they can swallow large carp  -  with extreme difficulty and if they’ve got a half-hour to spare.  The process began some time before 0559, and involved much floating around and looking very uncomfortable with a bulging carp-shaped throat – and 3 separate regurgitations and re-swallowings.  The bird appeared unable to get the fish beyond the throat while swimming, and only achieved it after becoming more or less vertical standing on a log – at 0628.  Probably won’t need any lunch.
