Despite having, reputedly, the longest bill of any living bird species the Australian Pelican is under-equipped to deal with the outsize European Carp in Kelly Swamp.  While able to get the fish in the bill, these young birds could not complete the operation, and eventually gave up.   As these larger carp are too large for other waterbirds, they are probably destined for scavengers when they are eventually stranded.
