Myself and 3 volunteers removed some of the poplar suckers from the island opposite Ardea hide – presumably when we flushed Steve’s Buff-banded rails. Did not see them but did see a Baillons crake. We also ring barked 3 of the large poplars
(there are a dozen large stems on the island) to create standing dead timber for bird roost. There will still be plenty of cover in the weeping willow and contorted willow for the night herons.
