I was pleased and surprised to see the Rufous Fantail still in my neighbour's messy backyard on Tuesday morning. (Thus by chance qualifying on two GBS weeks.) But I was away till after dark and no sign of it today.

The nest box at which Crimson Rosellas have been attending for 10 weeks (and Eastern Rosellas have sometimes checked out), now clearly have chicks. I could hear them this morning. also the female arrived and entered the box and the chicks' sound increased. For the first time I saw the male also go in the box (after her, for about 2 minutes, then he came out). The female is still in half immature plumage, the male in mature plumage.

The Koel is still in the area.

Subject: Rufous Fantail in my GBS

Going out at 9:10 this morning to take out the wheelie bin, I heard the nice tinkle of a Rufous Fantail in my neighbour's messy backyard. I didn't have time to look. Fortunately it was still there on my return at 1:00 so I tracked it down and watched it for a while. It was not there yesterday (or at least not calling if it was).

Philip.
