Hi everyone
I note that Julian has posted sightings of Cicardabird and Black-faced
Monarch from the Bendethera Valley: the fabled Grid Z20 - one of the
four corners of the COG AOI universe.
We camped in Deua National Park for three nights this week and recorded
both Black-faced Monarch and Cicadabird. (The Black-faced Monarch was at
the very end of the Berlang Fire Trail - start at Wallaces Gap and turn
off along the Berland fire trail, go along 16km of rough fire trail to
the junction with the Betowar Fire Trail. Park there because the Berland
Trail is blocked by huge fallen trees thereafter. Walk another 3km of -
downhill on the way out and uphill on the way back. The bird was
foraging in the canopy of a copse of trees at the head of a wet gully
with vines, treeferns and dense shrubs.
The downside of our camping and hiking trip was that it is the flowering
season for broom so its rampant spread along the upper Shoalhaven Valley
is painfully evident. It now carpets whole hillsides and fresh outliers
are scattered across all but the best-managed properties. It is invading
uncleared land along the valley bottom. It does look very pretty... but...
