Janet,

Did you consider Brown Thornbill or White-browed Scrubwren? - both also
exhibit "russet" rumps when they fly off and would be much more likely in
Aranda than would be a Chestnut-rumped Thornbill.

This morning I saw a small bird in a group which included spotted
pardalotes. As it flew away I saw a very distinctive russet rump.
Could it be anything except a chestnut-rumped thornbill? I noticed it has
been rarely recorded in Canberra. It was on the lower branches of a
Euaclyptus cinerea.
