Hi Matt If you can find your way to Lees Creek Road or New Chum's Road in the Brindabella Ranges you ought find them, but they are one of the last migrants to return, and one of the earliest to leave. That matches part of Philip's message about their numbers peaking in November and March. Listen for a higher pitched (more metallic) Fantail call (higher than Grey Fantail). They also make a single call (described as "chip, chip" on this site) Listen to the sound file linked on the right hand side bar. http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/species/Rhipidura-rufifrons The first few squeaks are what one hears mostly. Once you get that call in your head, you will pick them up. Hope that helps. Failing that, they will soon be in the Robertson Nature Reserve, but not for another 3 weeks or so. Robertson is two hours drive north-east from Canberra (on the way to Wollongong).
