This morning we discovered at least 6 pairs of RRPs apparently using
crevices in the sides of Commonwealth Ave Bridge as nesting sites. These
are vertical slits on the inner sides of each of the bridge platforms.
Stand between the platforms on the southern end of the bridge and look up.
We saw at least one male feeding his partner who was hidden out of sight in
the crevice and other pairs examining crevices as potential nesting sites.
While obviously not what the bridge designer had in mind the birds clearly think
they are useful and RRPs are a lot less messy than the feral pigeons also using
parts of the bridge to roost and probably breed.
