COG’S BIRD BLITZ 27-28 OCTOBER 2012
Update 28 September
Just one month to go now and hopefully the weather will be kinder than today! The Excel spreadsheet on the website shows the spots that have already been “adopted” for surveying. But more blitzers are always welcome as many of the listed individuals are surveying only a single site in the nominated grid cell. For those of you as yet uncommitted, how about considering surveying one of the following prime pieces of avian real estate?
In the north: Mulligans Flat NR; Goorooyarroo NR; Percival Hill NR; O’Connor Ridge NR; Black Mountain NR; Campbell Park; Mt Ainslie; Mt Pleasant
In the west: Woodstock NR; Cotter Reserve; Uriarra; Pierces Creek; Umbagong Park; Dunlop grasslands
In the south: Glendale Crossing; Brandy Flat; Yerrabi Trail; Settlers Trail; Nursery Swamp; Smokers Trail; Orroral Valley; Tuggeranong Hill NR; Mt Rob Roy
In the east: Queanbeyan sewage works; Newline Quarry; Fairbairn pines
The situation for the regular blitzers-behind-locked-gates in Namadgi NP will remain unclear until nearer the time. Perhaps those folk might like to consider contingency plans in case we aren’t allowed in to certain trails. For example the Cotter Hut folk might like to consider Orroral Valley and Nursery Swamp; the Naas fire trail folk Boboyan Rd down to Mt Clear campground. ?? At this stage Old Boboyan Rd seems likely to be useable.
To nominate your preferred site or simply to discuss options, please contact me at m("canberrabirds.org.au","blitz");"> or see me at the COG meeting in October.
