Yes it is on again – COG’s big ACT bird count over the last weekend in October. Participants are encouraged to “adopt” one or more locations and to survey there at least once over the weekend. All the rules and operational details are in this month’s Gang-gang and on the COG website www.canberrabirds.org.au. Many favourite locations have already been adopted but there is no limit on the number of surveyors at any one site – though it would be helpful if you chose an as yet unloved spot as well! Up for grabs are the following:

In the north: Campbell Park NR; Mt Ainslie NR; Mt Majura NR; Mulligans Flat NR; Goorooyarroo NR; Black Mtn NR; O’Connor Ridge NR; Percival Hill; Gungahlin Hill; all the grasslands

In the east: Fairbairn Pines; Queanbeyan sewage works; Oaks Estate; Newline Quarry

In the west: Woodstock NR; Mt Painter NR; Umbagong Park; Uriarra Crossing

In the south: Mt Rob Roy; Tuggeranong Hill NR; McQuoids Hill; Tidbinbilla NR; Tharwa sandwash; Orroral Valley; Angle Crossing; Yankee Hat; Hospital Hill; Cotter area; Gibraltar Falls

Plus many less well-known spots.

Please put in your bids to me at m("canberrabirds.org.au","blitz");"> if you haven’t already done so. Do join in! It’s a great opportunity to go birding for a good cause. b
