It would be nice support for Alison if someone from the relevant organ of the Territory Government also took an active interest in this!

In response to your question about requesting the airport management not to mow the area, Alison Rowell is the environmental consultant to the airport - how lucky we have someone who cares about birds!
Alison, the email text below gives directions as to where the Lapwings are.
Sending this also to the chat-line for any future similar enquiries.

The Banded Lapwings at Canberra Airport are incubating.  The below shows a changeover at the nest.  The non-incubating bird sometimes advances to the fence, or might be some distance off towards the airstrip.  To locate the nest proceed as follows.  Park behind Jim Murphys to the north of the Costco building.  Walk behind the Costco building with the airport fence on your left to a fenced pit between the road and the fence.  Between the fenced pit and the airport fence is a concrete square.  Stand on this and look towards the airstrip.  On the other side of the airstrip are 2 low dark screens and on this side of the airstrip a low white oblong marker.  The line towards the nest is between the right-hand dark screen and the white oblong, about 50m in from the fence.  The sitting bird might be a little hard to see if it has its back to you.  Who is going to ask the airport management not to mow this area?
