We have at least 2 currawongs resident at our place (Griffith). They have been
here for some time, more than a year. Probably decided to stay after they had
finished feasting on out figs. Maybe next year? That's why they stay
This morning Bill heard noisy calls. He went out to the terrace and saw 2
currawongs engaged in mortal combat. They fell to the ground, still entangled
with each other. He clapped his hands and they flew away. (I would have left
them to, hopefully, killeach other).
The only birds that we have here which will be producing young are wattle birds
and peewees and magpies. This pair of wattle birds are resident through the
winter and are usually joined by returning migrants later
Many years ago sparrows nested int the neighbour's electricity box which is on
the wall opposite out dining room. We watched them take in nesting material and
continue coming and going. Currawongs hung around on the fence until the
nestlings appeared. Farewell nestlings. I do not care for currawongs; and if
Dennis's pigeons lose their babies--!!
