Plenty of silvereyes about so time for the subspecies conversation.  Dozens (probably 100s altogether) streaming through the backyard over the last few days, pausing at the scungy impoundment known as a ‘water feature’ in real-estatese.  Below not great examples of the photographer’s art but are today’s snaps of what I take to be examples of both westernensis and the Tasmania-bound lateralis  (two birds on right).  If I have them correctly they are moving through in mixed flocks, with a preponderance of the former.  Anyone interested in exploring the somewhat elusive differences will find these discussed in various places including the archive of this chatline.
