Two (maybe three) choughs were building a nest on O’Corror Ridge (half way
up the left-veering track from the top of Clianthus St) last Monday (before the
rain). They were not around when I photographed the nest on Friday – see
attached – or when I went up this afternoon. The group of 10+ birds were in the
pines to the north on Friday (I did not see them today) – I think they are the
same group that over many months have been working their way up from near the
Lyneham shops – I noticed them at various places on or near Clianthus Street,
including in our garden (cnr Boobialla & Clianthus).
Are the nest-builders likely to return to their nest?
Also saw a pair of scarlet robins, grey fantails displaying up and down
tree trunks, and lots of other small birds at the top of the ridge. And around
the house over last day or so: female golden whistler; our locally resident
eastern spinebills feeding from camellias as well as grevilleas, correas etc;
pair of spotted pardalotes attacking their reflections in my office window (the
female more aggressive than the male); white-throated treecreeper; fairy wrens
etc ...
BTW: there are some rather fine artworks at the top of the
left-veering track, and great cubbies in the pines on the right-veering track
from the top of Clianthus street. And often 10+ kangaroos below the pines or
there-abouts in the afternoons. The Ridge is an especially lovely place at the
moment, and great for kids.
