When you sit down at the BBQ area there is an official sign saying welcome or something like that. Twice it has Rowes Lagoon written, and each of them it is obvious has been painted over whatever was below, presumably or possibly Rose.

For this, Peter, we might need to do a search through all past Canberra Bird Notes and Gang-gangs. It is certainly spelt ‘Rose Lagoon’ in many of them, and, as a Google inquiry will show, in many other places. I had known it as ‘Rose Lagoon’ before the referred to sign appeared, and I took it either as a witticism, a statement by a landholder called ‘Rowe’, or the advancing of an opposite viewpoint by someone who might or might not have had grounds for it. I am suspicious of names that achieve currency on the basis of a single, apparently private, sign.
I think the answer to your question is ‘yes’, but if you wish to take it up with the NSW place names committee or whatever it is called I shall be interested in the result.
I wish to bring to your attention that Rose Lagoon as spelt in Canberra Bird Notes Vol 37 No 1 Mar 2012 is spelt Rowes Lagoon on the access track to the BBQ area at the site and on one map that I have checked.
Is it usually spelt Rose Lagoon in COG circles?
