When I taught a bird study course in 1996, one of the participants invited me to visit their house in Chifley or Hughes or somewhere near there, with an imprint on a window very much like these. My guess was it was from a frogmouth but as the bird had not been seen it couldn't be verified.

A neighbour has sent me an email with images taken of the imprints made by a frogmouth catching moths on his windows.  I have shown them on my blog at http://franmart.blogspot.com.au/2012/05/frogmouth-palimpsest-sort-of.html
