There was a flock of White-throated Needletails over Mt Taylor late on Wednesday.  I saw them from 7pm, for about half an hour.  I found it impossible to count the exact amount.  For my observation record I put down 25 because that was the conservative maximum I could see, but there would certainly have been more.  My experience was very similar to that described by Philip on 9 March (see: http://bioacoustics.cse.unsw.edu.au/archives/html/canberrabirds/2012-03/msg00095.html).  They moved off in a westerly direction - perhaps to roost in trees on the Bullen Range or other ranges further west?  Whilst watching the swifts I saw a Black-shouldered Kite as well - a species I haven't seen in this location for awhile.
