I suspect what was meant was that it is a domestic goose, which is derived
over centuries of selective breeding from the original wild stock called the
Grey-lag Goose (Anser anser) that inhabits Europe. The individual would
surely be many generations in Australia, since an ancestor somewhere outside
Australia. Yes most likely let out of someone's yard or just escaped or
maybe even bred feral somewhere, with lots of human assistance.

Geoffrey told me it was a grey lag goose, most likely imported from Britain.
Has it been let out of someone's yard? or just escaped?
