Elizabeth, The White-winged Triller male does have an eclipse plumage that is fairly similar to the female. It is generally a bit darker on the main flight feathers than a female but can be hard to pick at any reasonable distance. A bird calling in female plumage could be one such eclipse male bird. Cheers, Mark -----Original Message----- From: Elizabeth Compston Sent: Friday, 9 March 2012 6:03 PM To: Birds Canberra Subject: female triller This morning, at Callum Brae Bill saw the female triller in the company of another bird which he was unable to get a good look at. Perhaps it was the chick that she had raised. Also, a triller was heard calling. Is the call of the female the same as the call of the male?
