Alastair,

Please rest assured that if I fail to appreciate Birdline ACT, it is purely through ignorance, not due to any firmly held view of its role.
At your kind prompting, I have indeed contributed sightings to Eremaea and am more than happy to continue doing so. As far as I'm concerned, any data gathering exercise is worthwhile provided certain standards are met (as I'm sure they are in Eremaea's case).
My comment was prompted solely by the repeated postings of the information, and the fact that I didn't recall having seen such postings on the chatline in the past. My immediate (and evidently mistaken) conclusion was that the original posting was an error and that the subsequent repeat posting were manifestations of that same error. Hence my "(or even once...)" addendum.
I support what you are doing wholeheartedly and would be more than happy to see such postings on the COG chatline in the future.

Cheers,
John

John,
I was intrigued to receive an email from you to  Canberrabirds, the tone of which implied you don't appear to appreciate what Birdline ACT is doing or stands for. I suspect we may have communicated in the past about posting sightings to birdline.

Birdline ACT is a service to birders in the ACT (both resident and visitors) and is in no way intended to divide the COG community (of which I am a member). Instead I have tried to set up a one stop shop for people to post sightings of birds in the ACT, and where others can read about those sightings. I will leave all bird related discussion to canberrabirds.

The very real benefit of this system to COG is that, when entered, all the sightings are geocoded (where temporal and spatial data is attached) and the reports are sent to Birds Australia from where they can be harvested by COG.

I hope this alleviates any fears you may have about  Eremaea or what I am trying to do with the system.
Regards
Alastair

Why did we receive this message 3 times (or even once, for that matter)?
OK, make that four times and counting...
