Some interesting info on this story..... according to www.snopes.com
(the best place to check out whether stories are fabrications or
hoaxes etc), this story is actually true. The only bit that isn't,
is the $4000 stash found on the roof. No such stash was found. The
rest of it however is correct, and Starlings were stealing change
from the machines, except that it is not from Frederick, Maryland,
but rather Fredericksburg, Virginia. I just thought it was
fascinating that it was true, rather than an urban myth like I
expected it to be.
