Finally, a tip for the Christmas traveller. Long-time chatliners will recall that the well-known ‘Ironbark’ Rest Stop, abeam of Chiltern on the Hume Highway, has had occasional mentions in this place from time to time.  There, on Tuesday, the dry throaty call of the Black-chinned Honeyeater could be heard above the hum of the traffic.  Not an unusual bird for that area, but the sound recalled the unprecedented visit here of these chaps a year or two ago.   Something to keep an eye out for locally in these changing times  -  along with the Banded Stilt and Native Heron of course, both expected any day now.
