I can
add to that. I have just returned from a stroll at Kambah Pool. On the drive out
there, on the Kambah Pool road I saw what I thought to be 2 adult and 2
young Black-shouldered Kites on a tree about
20 metres from the road and 150 metres past the corner of Mt Vernon Road (on the
right facing towards the river). I stopped and turned around, during which time
they flew and returned. Pity I don't have a camera, they would have been really
easy to photograph (they often are). When I got back to them there was clearly
on adult and three young birds. I suppose one of the adults flew off. I watched
them for about 10 minutes. The young birds were calling a lot (a rather
unpleasant rasping call). During that time a very distant pair of Wedge-tailed
Eagles passed into my binocular view. As I was diverted by them a pair of
Peregrine Falcons flew by in a spectacular chasing and diving display and I
watched them till they disappeared over towards the Bullen range. The adult
Black-shouldered Kite flew off and started hovering and
dropped down to the ground apparently unsuccessfully. As soon as it flew up
again the three young all followed it. They then settled on the same tree. I
then saw that there was another young kite in the next tree. So it is at least a
pair and four young. When I came back at 5:22 they weren't there.
To add to that, an adult pair of
Kestrels with I assume a dy at Kambah Pool (and lots
more as well). And a Wedge-tailed Eagle doing the
deep undulating display over the Bullen
range.

Good. Maybe
young of the pair I saw on the Kambah Pool road on the 30 October. Although
curiously that was the only day I saw them there, in several visits over
the past few months. There is also an (almost certainly breeding) pair of
Kestrels there.
