Hi Alastair,
Sorry, yes it was definitely the plover, much bigger than the dotterels and had
the correct markings for a female non breeding bird (as according to simpson
and day field ). Pond 5 on the map Harvey provided, I was there around 1.15 in
the afternoon. It flew from pond 5 to pond 4, then back again because I
accidentally disturbed it with my victory dance. Now I realise this is probably
the worst picture ever posted on this chatline, but as I only had my phone
camera on hand it's the best I could do. It was walking very differently to the
dotterels, and was very plover-shaped if that's not too vague.
I broke the first rule of birdwatching and forgot my binoculars, but the bird
let me get fairly close.

You can see the goldish back and the pale whitish line under the wing.
