Good evening all

Referring back to my report at the end of September, they are still here – and a couple of extras to boot.  Right now there are 16 BSKs perched together in the high branches of a single dead eucalypt on our neighbours property.  Too far away to photograph but even at a distance a very pleasing sight.  They don’t know it yet but sooner rather than later the rich mouse population that is obviously enjoying the harbour of the 50 hectares of largely native grassland that surrounds us will soon be decimated.  Meantime we will savour the unusual and continued presence of this beautiful bird.

And, to add icing to the cake, we were visited by a Cattle Egret in full breeding plumage last Thursday (27/10) for only our second record in 10 years (the first in October 2005).  The bird spent all day in the company of a nearby neighbours cow as it foraged and lazed in a paddock.

Cheers

John
