And so to Kylie’s Beach in Crowdy Bay NP, an area associated with the novelist Kylie Tennant (1912-1988). A peaceful spot (until the imminent school holidays) with a reasonable number of bird species, and one allowing a brief glimpse of 3 Regent Bowerbirds in the patch of tangled rain-forest near “Kylie’s Hut”. (Photo not provided - of hut or bowerbirds.)
At the beach I found 2 red-backed species that must be near the southern limit of their normal range. As I saw each on consecutive days, I infer that they could be commonly seen in this area of the “mid-North-Coast”.
The vehicle on the beach belongs to an ancient fisherman who had with, and after, his father fished the Crowdy Bay coastline for many years. He had just ended his fishing for the morning, recognising that “a swell after a north-west” offered poor prospects for the beach-angler.
