From  0300 this morning I was wakened  by the monotonous, mournful, three distinct syllables , then a drawn out wheeze  type of call just outside my  bedroom window in Hartley St, Turner. Last Spring  at some ungodly hour , in desperation I wandered the streets and eventually located the culprit  by torchlite to discover it was a male red wattle bird  obviousley practising ait's mating call. It can only be hoped that the female of the species arrive sooner than later. Otherwise ear muffs will be required. Terry B.
