We were at Birdsville recently. No, not at the races. Lots of good birds
around. We were travelling in a southerly direction, along the Birdsville
Track, when we saw a peregrine falcon hurtling down towards a barn owl, which
was doing its best to escape the attack. It did escape, perhaps only
temporarily. We may have caused the peregrine to detour. If the peregrine had
hit the owl, it certainly would have been one less owl. We climbed a nearby
sand dune, but failed to get another sighting of either bird.

We also saw a newly dead boobook owl. It was beautiful. Only its eyes seemed
to be damage. I wanted to bring it back for Mark

There were many raptors around, between Windora and Birdsville. We saw nests
with young, of wedge tail eagles and black falcons.
