On the 20 & 21st August I visited a friends hobby/horticulture farm on Snowgum lane Bywong (Top of ridge). In summer I have recorded some good birds there, including 8 threatened or rare species (up to 60 species so far). But winter wasn’t so good, plus it was windy.

I saw:

-2 varied sitellas, 1 grey butcherbird and 1 grey currawong. >40 WW choughs in 2 very large flocks. Brown goshawk, wedgie, striated thornbills (~5), spotted pardalotes, golden whistler, 1 GST, 2 BFCS, white faced heron, little pied Cormorant, alpacas, kangaroos. Frogs- Crinia (crick crick) and marsh frog (weeek), I need to check my books.

-There were also so many wolf spiders in holes, every 2m square was a hole. I measured their depth and most were 20-30cm deep. One of the guys who lives there said he dug out a hole and it was 1m deep. I tried to encourage the spiders out, by spider fishing, so I could identify the species, but although they came near to the surface they didn’t exit.

-The Bungendore Mirror (paper) have a competition for the best Wattle photo for spring.
