That reminds me, I spotted
one hovering just north of William Hovell Drive near the Coulter
Drive intersection on Wednesday afternoon -- the first I've seen
in Canberra for at least a year.

today a pair of Black-shouldered kites at Callum Brae - this species
has been in short supply around Canberra this year, and hasn't been
seen before at Callum Brae according to the COG database, so two was a
bonus. Also two kestrels, a brown falcon, and surprisingly for
August, a brown goshawk had a couple of swoops at me as I passed
through its breeding territory from last year - didn't follow up with
a lengthy chase, but two passes within a few feet were enough to see
me on my way! I had been following a nice mixed feeding flock, which
included both flame and scarlet robins as well as large numbers of
thornbills and other small birds.
