This Winter several COG members took advantage of the friendly presence of the Luffs in the Ranger’s cottage to pay a visit to this BA reserve in the South Australian mallee. I was there last week. Pretty much the usual stuff for Winter, although I was surprised to find Yellow-plumed (most abundant bird) and White-fronted (vigorously song-flighting) honeyeaters with young in the nest. They must have started nest-building at the beginning of July. All the more surprising in view of the intensely cold mornings - one reaching minus 6 degrees, enough for you to have freezing bino-dropping fingers well after the sun was above the treetops.
