Spotted Quail-thrush near the orienteering start on the Tallaganda Ridge between Bungendore and Braidwood only 80m S from the highway, right opposite the sign that says ‘Great Dividing Range’, in fact the territory probably straddles the divide.

G'day All,

I saw a similar sized flock near the intersection of the Kowen Forest Road and Sutton Road yesterday afternoon. They were moving very slowly, from tree to tree, generally moving West.

Subject: [canberrabirds] Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos

Returning from the Cotter this morning we stopped near the road to Mt Stromlo to watch a large flock of YTBC come towards us and land in several trees to the south of the road. There sounded to be some begging young in the group as well. After a pause of about 15 minutes and a lot of noise they all took off again heading in the direction of the river/ranges.

I managed to get 49 here but there was another group of about 15 that didn't fit in the lens.

This is just the top of one of the trees they landed in.

It was quite something to witness - as we drove on towards Duffy, a Wedge-tailed eagle was soaring down quite low behind them.

Would this have been the reasons for these large Cockatoos to move on in mass or was it just time for them to do so anyway?
