Today it was (sensibly) sunning itself on the edge of the reed bed in
the farm dam, for at least 10 minutes at about 3pm, before retreating
back into the reeds. A trek cross-country to the top of the hill near
the 3 yellow marker posts yielded a large MFF with at least 6 flame
robins, speckled warbler, buff- and yellow-rumped thornbills, a
white-eared honeyeater, grey fantails, weebills and white-plumed
honeyeaters.
(anyone wanting to find the dam where the rail is hanging out, its on
far left of the reserve if you start at main entrance. There is a line
of very large green pylons - mid way between the single pylon and the
row of 3, there is a fence running at right angles into the farm from
the fence of the reserve. If you stand at that point and look across
the fence at the dam, you can see the reed bed almost right in front
of you - the rail was near the small dead 2-trunked tree. It's a
longish walk from reserve entrance on Narrabundah Lane, but the tracks
are all being slashed regularly. The fence is very close to the track
at that point.)
